Working professionals!

Working with professionals NEVER guarantees that you're working with trustworthy, reliable, honest individuals. We all know this because, at some point (or at many points), we have all worked with an unreliable, dishonest "professional."

Whether your next interaction/dealing is with a mortgage broker, realtor, financial advisor, medical professional, take time to ask the important questions:

"How do I know that I can trust you?"
"Can you explain to me how you get paid?"
"What fees are involved with these services?"

If you get a referral from a friend, ask your friend if the professional did what s/he said and if there were any hidden fees.

Then ask the professional the same questions from above, even if they're the most highly recommended person for the task! Taking the time to ask the hard, but good questions will never cost you more than what it cost when you don't ask the hard questions!

Currently, we're working with a mortgage broker and this link has more questions specifically regarding choosing a loan officer: How to choose a good lender.
